RAR Rocking Chair by Charles & Ray Eames for Herman Miller original base, 1950s
RAR Rocking Chair on its original base in zinc finish.
Third generation Zenith shell in Elephant Grey produced between 1955 and 1958 recognisable by the 3 raised dots.
Very nice shell with a lot of fibres in one of the first 6 colours released for fibreglass shells: Elephant Hide Grey. Very fibrous, very nice state without fading, no scratches or cracks.
Original shock-mounts and screws. Original rocking base with a great patina. Zinc plated steel rods with a little superficial rust. Original birch runners with some wear.
"The famous Eames Rocking (R) Arm (A) Chair on Rod (R) Base, abbreviated to RAR, was one of the ‘original 5’ released in 1950 and remains a firm favorite with collectors and home owners all these years later. When the original Eames Office and Zenith Plastics colluded to produce the Eames RAR Rocking Chair in 1950 few could have predicted its enduring popularity and rise to ‘design classic’ over the coming years. This happened despite the fact the rocking base was sadly discontinued in 1968 by Herman Miller." ©www.eames.com
