Tea Cart Model 901 Trolley by Alvar Aalto for Artek, Finland, 1950s
Tea Cart or Trolley model 901 designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto for Artek. Made in Finland, manufactured probably in the 1950s.
Birch frame, contrasting shelving with black linoleum, large wooden wheels painted white.
Alvar Aalto created this serving cart in the 1930s, inspired by the British tee culture. It was first presented it at the 1936 Milan Triennial.
The two side parts in bent birch wood form a loop and the structure of the trolley. Alvar Aalto loved curves and bends, these forms are a distinctive sign of his architecture and furniture designs.
The linoleum covering of the two shelves is allows cups, glasses or bottles to be placed without leaving marks or stains.
This 901 trolley from the 1950s has a great patina with some nicks and scuffs. The birch wood has been refinished by maintaining the patina, it has a rich honey colour. There are some marks on the black linoleum. The wheels have not been touched-up, it is visible that they are assembled from several parts of wood. Overall, this collector’s item is in nice original condition with its age apparent.
