Nitzsche was one of the main creators of ceramic art forms in Denmark in the 1970s and was the technical leader and designer of Søholm from 1974 to 1982. Søholm Stentøj, which means Soholm’s sandstone, was founded in 1835 by Herman Sonne Wolffsen and Edvard Sonne. The name Søholm, comes from the factory where the two founders were employed, a pottery near Copenhagen, in 1828-1839. It was the oldest factory operating in Bornholm, a Danish island off the south coast of Sweden, until it closed in 1996. In the middle of the 20th century, Søholm produced a wide range of stoneware in various patterns and shapes.
