Lars Holmström (1894–1959)
Lars August Holmström was a Swedish mid-century art smith and designer, born in Gävleborg County and later based in Arvika. Coming from a family of blacksmiths, he was trained in his father’s workshop before founding his own studio in 1921. Holmström became known for his refined metalwork, creating candlesticks, chandeliers, silver objects, as well as gates and decorative details for both churches and public buildings.
In 1925, he gained international recognition at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernesin Paris, where his works—particularly his lighting designs—were praised in French art magazines as masterpieces of craftsmanship. Today, Holmström’s creations are admired as elegant examples of Scandinavian modern design, combining traditional forging techniques with timeless, architectural forms.
