Golden Bell Pendant Lamp in solid Brass Alvar Aalto for Louis Poulsen, 1950s

Regular price €1.250

Golden Bell lamp made by Louis Poulsen in Denmark probably in the 1950s. The shade is made of solid bras and very heavy (the newer versions, even the ones from the 60s/70s are made of anodised aluminium and much lighter).

The 'Golden Bell' pendant lamp was designed in 1936 for the interior of the Savoy restaurant in Helsinki by Alvar Alto and his wife Aino. It was characteristic of Aalto to treat each building as a complete work of art, right down to the furniture and light fittings.

The shade has a hole pattern all around the rim which creates a nice light and shadow effect all around. The lamp comes with its original E27/E26 porcelain light fixing and the original textile cable. The cable can be replaced by a new one without extra costs if desired.

The lamp has a very nice golden patina with some darker spots. I leave the decision to polish it to the next owner, but I would definitely keep the patina. There are some very small paint chips at the edge where it is visible that the lamp is made of solid brass (the brass is visible under the paint).

The Poulsen sticker of the lamp has fallen off, but the original stickers on the socket are still present.
