Large Stoneware Dish by Unknown Artist for Kähler, Denmark, 1960s
Large hand-decorated stoneware dish produced by Kähler in Denmark during the 1960s.
The composition combines abstracted landscape forms with stylized birds in flight, executed through finely incised linear decoration and earthy natural glazes. The contrast between the flowing white lines, dark graphic sections, and warm speckled clay creates a calm yet highly graphic visual rhythm.
The decoration reflects the strong influence of Scandinavian studio pottery during the postwar decades, where ceramic artists explored organic forms, landscape-inspired compositions, and hand-drawn surface treatments. The restrained palette and textured glaze surface give the piece a distinctly modernist yet deeply tactile presence.
The dish is signed underneath with an unidentified monogram, possibly “A.H.K.” or “A.N.K.”, alongside additional workshop markings.
A beautifully balanced decorative object that works equally well as wall-mounted ceramic art or as a sculptural centerpiece.
Very good vintage condition with minor traces of age and handmade production.
