Pair of Hans-Agne Jakobsson L102/32 Brass & Glass Photophores, Sweden, 1970s
A beautiful sculptural pair of L102/32 photophores or Hurricane Candle Lights designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1970s.
Featuring elegant cylindrical brass bases topped with hand-blown coloured glass shades, these iconic candle lanterns were originally designed for Swedish restaurant use in collaboration with candle manufacturer Asp-Holmblads. Their softly diffused light and refined proportions have made them sought-after Scandinavian design classics.
This pair combines one warm amber glass shade and one lightly smoked glass shade, creating an attractive composition that works equally well on a sideboard, dining table or shelving display. The original brass has developed a rich natural patina that beautifully complements the warm tones of the glass.
Each photophore features a spring mechanism inside the brass base that gently pushes the candle upwards as it burns, ensuring the flame remains perfectly positioned within the glass shade.
The taller example still retains its original Hans-Agne Jakobsson manufacturer's label underneath.
A timeless pair of Scandinavian Modern candle lanterns that combine understated elegance with exceptional craftsmanship.
