Pair Modernist Pendant Lamps by Jørn Utzon for Nordisk Solar, Denmark, 1960s
Pair vintage Tivoli Pendant lamps of the 1960s in black & white. Manufactured by Nordisk Solar in the 1950s or 1960s.
The Tivoli pendant was designed in 1947 by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, long before his renowned win of the architectural competition for the Sydney Opera House. At the time, Utzon also designed lamp, which was his passion, to generate additional income for his family.
The inspiration behind these lamps stems from the maritime heritage of his hometown, Copenhagen. It's easy to see how their design echoes the ships, chimneys, and bridges that lined Copenhagen's harbor during the mid-20th century.
This pair of lamps were produced by Nordisk Solar Compagni in the 1960s.
Originally, the lamps were sold by Nordisk Solar under the name “Tivoli Pendant,” but they were later renamed “P254” to avoid copyright issues with the Tivoli Gardens amusement park in the heart of Copenhagen. Today, the Tivoli lamp, now renamed the Utzon JU1, has been reissued by the Danish company &Tradition.
Nice state. The lamps are rewired with textile cables and retain their original bulb sockets for E26/E27 bulbs. They are compatible with both 220v and 110v systems.
